Numbered Props
The director was inspired to show a visual countdown to the culminant scene of the short film.
Within the production design that was included through dressing the location with various numbered props which could be subtly placed and appear in the different scenes leading to the scene of the revelation.
Costume
In the narrative, he describes his mother as possibly being different types of characters, as he describes her, her costumes change accordingly to the different personas he thinks she could be.
